We as humans, of course like most other animals are blessed to have two eyes. Our retinas form two different two-dimensional images of the world in front of us. Our brains then piece these both together to form a three-dimensional image, this is called stereoscopic vision.
Natively shot 3D movies try to replicate this, and use cameras that have two adjacent lenses next to each other. The final result is a file output with Top-And-Bottom or Side-By-Side images, that when merged together create a blurry 3D film that stereoscopic glasses are able to show each image to each of our eyes.
